How Do Our Prices Compare?

Below is a comparison chart comparing our pricing to different kinds of beef found in the grocery store.  Our methodology was simple.  We visited several grocery stores around the Metropolitan Atlanta area and noted their pricing for various kinds of beef (grain fed, antibiotic free, organic, grass fed).  The below chart represents the average prices found in the stores.

Kinds Of Beef

  • Grocery Store Grain Fed Beef (conventional beef): Most beef in the grocery store comes from confined Industrial Feedlots where cattle are fattened up quickly on corn, grains and growth hormones.  Corn is an unnatural diet for ruminants so the animals must be given regular doses of antibiotics to keep them healthy enough to make it to slaughter.  The beef has a higher fat and water content, so it tends to shrink the most during cooking.

  • Whole Foods Antibiotic/Hormone Free Beef (organic beef):  While they do not use antibiotics or hormones, the cattle are still finished on corn to fatten them up.  From a nutritional standpoint, this is bad as it throws off the fat balance in the meat. For example, every day the cattle are fed grain, the amount of Omega 3s in the beef drops significantly.  The many health benefits of grass fed beef can only be achieved when cattle are raised on 100% grasses from beginning to end.

  • Whole Foods, Grass fed Beef:  While it comes from a much larger scale operation, this beef is closest to the local, pasture raised beef we sell.

  • Our Local Grass Fed Beef:  All Natural, Pasture Raised, Grass-Fed Beef from beginning to end.  The beef is typically dry aged for 14 days to maximize tenderness and flavor.  Our beef is   Locally Sourced From Small, Family Size Farm Operations
